StudyPal: The Essential Educational App For Students

Project Description

As my Master's Degree major project, I developed StudyPal, an innovative educational UI app designed to enhance the student learning experience. My goal was to create a user-friendly platform focused on usability and functionality. Through research, I identified gaps in competitor apps' creativity and aesthetics, which I made core strengths of StudyPal.

Problem

The central problem I tackled was the issue of schools charging subscription fees for iPads or tablets used for tasks like school trip payments, homework, and updates. Existing apps often had basic and unattractive UI, making navigation difficult for both parents and students.

Solution

StudyPal tackles the challenges of high subscription fees for educational tablets and poor UI/UX design. It offers a user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing interface, improving usability and making the subscription fee more worthwhile for parents. By enhancing the student experience, StudyPal aims to revolutionize how students engage with educational tasks, helping them focus on their studies.

Primary Research

My primary research focused on analysing the UI design and user experience of Firefly, examining aesthetics and pros/cons. I also conducted a questionnaire at a local secondary school’s parents evening to gather feedback from parents whose children use educational apps. 📊

Secondary Research

The secondary research evaluated the effectiveness of educational apps through user reviews, focusing on usability, engagement, and educational value. It included perspectives from children, parents, and teachers, using metrics like satisfaction, academic performance, and behavioural changes. Comparative analysis provided insights into the best-performing apps across educational sectors. 📱

Final Thoughts

I’m really happy with how the project turned out. It’s been a rewarding experience seeing my ideas come to life, especially knowing that StudyPal addresses key challenges in the educational app space. The design is both functional and visually appealing. Overall, I feel this project has been a great success and has allowed me to grow as a designer. 🎉
